more from the league....

Rather than scheduling a third all day event in seven weeks, I think that it could be really fun to have some true "double headers" during the fall to squeeze in that extra game. Using last year's weighted template, I randomly selected "Game 17" games to turn into double header games. Under this system, every team plays ONE double header or game rest game during the fall season:
6-Sep double header day game 15

pm -1st weighted

9-Sep regularly scheduled day

21-Sep 2 p.m. 6v8 1v10

3 p.m. 6v9 7v10 13v14

4 p.m. 1v4 5v8 12v14

5 p.m. 2v3 11v15 13v16

28-Sep 2 p.m.

3v5

3 p.m. 8v13 12v16 9v15

4 p.m. 2v7 3v9 5v15

5 p.m. 1v11 4v6 10v14

5-Oct 2 p.m. 1v5 11v16 8v10

3 p.m. 2v9 11v14 13v15

4 p.m. 3v7 4v12 6v16

5 p.m. 7v12 2v4

12-Oct regularly scheduled day

21-Oct tournament

So, under this plan: Teams 1, 4, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 14, 15 play true double headers Teams 2, 3, 5, 8, 13 and 16 play, rest, play Seems to me this approach - - leaves plenty of room for socializing (and may, in fact, yield more...I am guessing lots of people will disperse to watch football during free time during an all day event). - lessens worry about the RAIN - doesn't schedule an all-day event every other week during the fall, which is what the proposed double header would do (3 all-days in 7 weeks) - adds a new element to the season...its like head to head cha-cha on dancing with the stars; we want to stay fresh. - takes place over 3 weeks, allowing a break after the last double header and leaving the last week free so the math is easier to speculate about (e.g., If shooters win they'll finish 9th, if they lose 12th, etc.) Food for thought.

p.s. According to the US Naval Observatory, we'd be fine scheduling that last game at 5 on October 5th:

Sunday 5 October 2008 Pacific Daylight Time
SUN
Begin civil twilight 6:45 a.m.
Sunrise 7:15 a.m.
Sun transit 12:59 p.m.
Sunset 6:42 p.m.
End civil twilight 7:12 p.m

Sounds like our odds of double heading on any given day in the fall depend on our standings in September. What's your early call? Will the Cheaters be last, second last, or third last? Will the Cheaters come out of nowhere to win the coveted "most improved" award? Do we want to pick our day to play twice? We may have to, um, CHEAT, to get the best spot in the double header lottery. Are the Blueballers fixin' to start up some more smack? Should we aim for forcing them into a double header out of spite, after letting them challenge us to a game of flip cup, and letting them drink more than us, before their second match? We are cheaters after all, what's the harm in a little black sox action?
